Where do I want to be? In a different place from where I am at the moment! That means I want to be able to travel to different places in my home country and to wherever I like abroad. I want to have the freedom to be WHEREVER I like and do whatever I fancy… (nice)!
But that will take up a lot of your time and money, it will cost you more than you can afford currently. But how much will it cost? That’s precisely what you need to do at this stage of planning. You need to add the cost of travel to your growing list of costs so that we can work out the total target and your money-making goal. Easy-Peasy!
Don’t forget that you might wish to travel first class! Many of my friends do precisely that. They can afford to pay for space in the aircraft, leg-room and space to work while going between the UK and Los Vegas. However, it’s not everyone’s cup of tea as they say! Many others are quite content to ‘slum-it’ with the standard class and they are not so ‘stuck-up’ as to close that curtain and eat their special in-flight meals without the plebs gawping at them!
All the little things come into play when you have the money to pay for them; When I asked myself the question “Where do I want to be?” I came up with some ideas such as…
• Taking a taxi across London instead of the underground rail service
• We’re going to an expensive restaurant instead of McDonalds again
• My car is in for a full service at a proper garage instead of Joe’s yard
• We are on 3 holidays in the sun instead of Aberystwyth again this year
• Our children are in a good schools instead of just down the road
• Visiting the M&S food-hall instead of the ready meals section in Asda
• Resting in the VIP lounge after using your Platinum card for the tickets
• Parking in my own driveway instead of on the street nearby.
That’s WHERE I wanted “To-Be” when I sniffed the air, well before I retired!
So, try asking yourself: “Where do I want to be in, say, 3- years time?”… check that you have now thought about it and can come up with a few ideas of your own. It should help you define what you are looking for and where to find it. (Look out for the next post in this series)
